Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson
Paris, April 8, 2003
The French Ambassador to Switzerland, Jacques Rummelhardt, and the Swiss Foreign Secretary, Franz von Daniken, sign an agreement today, April 8, 2003, between France and Switzerland on cooperation between the two states for the G8 conference which will be held at Evian-les-Bains on June 1-3, 2003.
The agreement provides for the concrete application and sets out the legal framework for the two countries' resolve to cooperate in accordance with the long tradition between France and Switzerland to ensure the summit at Evian takes place satisfactorily. It is conceived as a framework agreement that sets out the main lines of cooperation between Switzerland and France. It takes into account the sovereignty of the two states and the current bilateral agreements, in particular the accord of May 11, 1998. The agreement will be applicable as soon as it is signed.
