BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Charles J. McMillan is Professor (on leave) in the Faculty of Administrative Studies, York University, Toronto, Canada. He has taught at the University of Alberta, Laval University, the University of Bradford, and L Ecole Superieure de Commerce, Lyons, France; and he has lectured in several countries, including Britain, Sweden, Poland, France, Italy, the United States and Japan.
Throughout his academic career, he has served as review editor for several journals and funding agencies. He has published more than forty scholarly articles and is the author of four books, including, The Japanese Industrial System, published in Berlin, New York and Tokyo in English and Japanese editions. French and Russian versions are to be published in 1988.
From 1983-1987, he served as Senior Policy Advisor, first to the Honourable Brian Mulroney, Leader of Her Majesty s Opposition, and from September 1984 to the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney, Prime Minister of Canada. In Ottawa he specialized in such areas as trade and investment policy, science and technology, energy accords, regional development, financial services and Canadian policy in the Pacific Rim. He was a member of the Canadian delegation at the Economic Summits in Bonn, Tokyo and Venice.
Dr. McMillan has been consultant to several international agencies, foreign governments, multinational corporations and Canadian companies. He is the author of the forthcoming monograph, Bridge Across the Pacific: Canada and Japan in the 1990 s (Ottawa: Canada-Japan Trade Council, 1988). Dr. McMillan lives in Toronto with his wife Kazuyo and two daughters, Aya and Mari.
