Director of the International Relations Program at Trinity College, and Director of the G7 Research Group,

A Conversation with
the Honourable Catherine McKenna,
Canada's Minister of the Environment and Climate Change
and
Dr. Ella Kokotsis,
co-author of The Global Governance of Climate Change
and Director of Accountability for the G7 Research Group
on G7 opportunities in the context of
the meeting of G7 Ministers of the Environment and Energy in the fall.
The discussion will focus on what initiatives Canada can mount to advance these central Canadian and global priorities in 2018 and beyond.
The conversation took place in the Combination Room of Trinity College at 6 Hoskin Avenue
from 12pm to 1pm on Thursday, April 12, 2018.
The Honourable Catherine McKenna
is a graduate of the University of Toronto's International Relations Program based at Trinity College, and was a member of the G7 Research Group's field team at the 1996 G7 Lyon Summit. She went on to practise competition and international trade law in Canada and Indonesia and was senior negotiator with the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in East Timor. She also served as senior advisor on the former Chief Justice Antonio Lamer's review of Canada's military justice system. Catherine co-founded Canadian Lawyers Abroad, a charitable organization that works in developing countries and with Indigenous communities in Canada. She served as Executive Director of the Banff Forum and came back to the University of Toronto to teach at the Munk School of Global Affairs. She was elected on October 19, 2015, and was appointed Minister of Environment and Climate Change on November 4, 2015.
Dr. Ella Kokotsis
has been a member of the G7 Research Group and been a member of most of the G7 Research Group's field teams since 1994 . She is the Director of Accountability of the G7 and G20 Research Groups. She is co-author, with John Kirton, of The Global Governance of Climate Change, published by Routledge. She has consulted with various governmental and non-governmental organizations, including the Canadian government's National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy, the Council on Foreign Relations on their African development agenda, the Russian government on global health issues, the Canadian government during their 2010 G8 and G20 summits, and with Chinese officials on Arctic climate change. Her PhD research methodology for assessing summit compliance continues as the basis for the annual accountability reports produced by the G7, G20 and BRICS Research Groups. Ella holds a PhD in international politics from the University of Toronto.
