Global Corporate Citizenship and Non-state Actors in International Development is a project under the Global Governance and the G8 program at the University of Toronto's Centre for International Studies. The project is led by Dr. Marketa D. Evans, Executive Director of the Munk Centre for International Studies and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Political Science. Dr. Evans is focusing on global corporate citizenship and the divergent roles of non-state actors in international development.
In her role as Executive Director of the Munk Centre, which endeavours to foster innovative, interdisciplinary research on global issues and make that research accessible and intelligible through teaching and public education, Dr. Evans works to leverage the strengths of the more than one dozen different constituent centres and programs housed under the centre's umbrella and to enhance relationships among them. She is responsible for overall communications and publication strategies, for scholarly interchange and dialogue, for fundraising and advancement, and for deepening and broadening associations with a wide variety of non-traditional partners, including the private sector, non-governmental organizations, policy makers and the informed public.
Dr. Evans received her PhD in political science from the University of Toronto in 2002. She holds a BA Honours in International Relations from the University of Toronto and an MA from the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University in Washington DC. She has taught upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses on theory and history of the international system and on emerging issues in global politics, and is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Master of Arts Program in International Relations at the University of Toronto.
Prior to pursuing her PhD, Dr. Evans was employed in the private sector for more than ten years in progressively senior management positions with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.
