Prime Minister Jean Chretien, in Romania to open its first nuclear * power plant, said yesterday he would tell the G7 nuclear summit in Moscow that atomic energy could be safe, if it is based on the right technology. ``I believe that we can use atomic energy as a source of energy, but the safest system is the [Candu] heavy water and non-enriched uranium system that we have developed in Canada,'' Chretien told a news conference with Romania's President Ion Iliescu. Chretien was in Romania to formally open the Cernavoda power station on the Danube, east of Bucharest, which uses Candu technology.
