FOREIGH MINISTER OUELLET TO VISIT FRANCE
ForeignMinister Andre Ouellet, one of the federalist team fighting the separationefforts of the Parti Quebecois, will visit Paris this week, the Department ofForeign Affairs said yesterday. The department said Ouellet will meet PrimeMinister Alain Juppe and Foreign Minister Herve de Charette to continue ``thefruitful dialogue between Canada and France.'' Officially he will discuss international topics including the former Yugoslavia and the follow-up to theHalifax summit of the Group of Seven industrialized nations. But inevitablyevery federal action the se days is seen as being connected to the Oct. 30referendum on separation. France has maintained an official policy ofnon-interference.
MARTIN SAYS DATE NOT SET FOR UPDATE
Finance Minister PaulMartin told reporters yesterday that a date hasn't yet been set for him toappear before the House of Commons finance committee to provide an update ofCanada's economic and fiscal outlook. Last year he provided the update to thecommittee Oct. 17 and 18. Martin said the finance committee will decide when it is appropriate for him to give his report. He noted that the governmenthasn't yet issued its annual financial report for the 1994-95 fiscal yearended March 31. He said it isn't worthwhile for him to appear before thefinance committee until the 1994-95 financial report is available.
