French G7 Presidency Initiative on Nature & People Finance Alliance
April 24, 2026
[pdf]
We underline that the protection, conservation and restoration of biodiversity and ecosystems across land and seascapes are essential to sustaining human life, and also fundamental to the resilience and long-term prosperity of our economies and security of our societies, which are deeply interconnected with and dependent upon biodiversity.
To this end, the mobilisation is longstanding and significant public resources have already been deployed, in support of nature protection, conservation and restoration, domestically and through bilateral and multilateral cooperation frameworks, development banks, multilateral financial institutions, and non-governmental organisations. Building on these efforts, we aim to further enhance nature protection, conservation and restoration, including through closer coordination between public and private financial actors and the mobilisation of additional resources particularly from the private sector and philanthropic organisations.
In this context, and with the initial engagement of diverse financial partners from the private sector, philanthropies and public financial institutions within and beyond the G7, we highlight the added value of establishing a broad and inclusive alliance dedicated to supporting enhanced finance for nature: the Nature & People Finance Alliance. This initiative offers opportunities to foster coordinated, effective and efficient financing approaches that aim to provide tangible benefits for both nature and people. Driving locally-led approaches, it is expected to bring greater coherence and strategic direction to existing efforts, while promoting new joint initiatives, as appropriate, that contribute positively to biodiversity, as a concrete response to our shared ambition to deepen public-private partnerships, thus contributing to our respective national and international commitments.
We therefore note with appreciation the launch of the French G7 Presidency’s Initiative, the Nature & People Finance Alliance, which is expected to help strengthen financing for nature protection, conservation and restoration, particularly by leveraging increased voluntary private sector engagement.
