G8 Research Group Alumni News
Alumnae and alumni of the G7 Research Group are a very accomplished group and are scattered around the world and involved in all kinds of interesting endeavours. Here is a sample:
Ryan Lavallee is an executive director at Goldman Sachs. After 10 years based in London, he has just relocated to the 45th floor of the Warsaw Spire in Poland, where he is building and serves as a regional head of the derivatives trade management group. [January 2019]
Gabrielle Bardall is a Research Officer with the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) in Washington DC. [November 2009]
Michael Youash moved from South Africa to Washington DC, where he is Project Director for the Iraq Sustainable Democracy Project, which is funded by the Assyrian Academic Society. [March 2005]
Elizabeth Gomery is a litigation lawyer with Woods & Partners. [March 2005]
Danielle Kotras is Director of Public Affairs and Development for the Liberal Party of Canada. [December 2004]
Lida Preyma was a member of Canada's team of observers of the December 26 elections in Ukraine. She kept a daily diary with CTV News Online. [December 2004]
Liz Noh, who was a producer with CBC Radio News, won the Amnesty International Canada Media Award for excellence in coverage of international human rights, for the audio documentary North Korea: The Hidden Gulag broadcast on CBC Radio's The World At Six on December 29, 2003. (The reporter who shares the award with her is Christopher Grosskurth.) [December 2004]
Maja Nazaruk is living in Lviv, Ukraine, on an internship sponsored by Foreign Affairs Canada at the Dzherelo Centre, an NGO working with disabled children. She was also an election observer and has been documenting the Ukrainian Orange Revolution her photographs are available online (free registration required). [December 2004]
Patrick Cirillo has been appointed Deputy Chief of Public Affairs at the International Monetary Fund. [November 2004]
Mike Rollason is the proud father of Diego, born in May 2004. He's also the Manager of Strategy for RBC Investments, Canadian Wealth Investment Services. [September 2004]
Jean-Pierre Laporte is a lawyer in a large downtown Toronto firm where he specializes in business law with a special emphasis on pension funds. He is married to a University of Toronto professor and has two young kids. [June 2004]
Haruka Araki has completed her graduate studies at Soka University in Tokyo and is pursuing a PhD there on Japans financial sector as well as the economic implications of its governments policies. [March 2004]
Jeanne-Mey Sun recently published Winning the Profit Game: Smarter Pricing, Smarter Branding (with Robert G. Docters, Michael R. Reopel, and Stephen M. Tanny, published by McGraw-Hill, 2004). Aimed at business leaders and managers charged with revenue responsibilities, it is a comprehensive how-to guide for using pricing and brand to maximize profits. The book discusses how to set prices on both existing and new goods and services, how to manage ongoing pricing and branding in both upturns and downturns in the economy, and how to build revenue capabilities within an organization. [February 2004]
Professor Andreas Freytag has been appointed full professor at the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität in Jena, Germany, where he holds the Chair of Economic Policy. [December 2003]
Marina Kolbe Hutchinson is host of a new phone-in radio show, Never Better, which can be listened to on the internet at ieamericaradio.com on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. EST. [November 2003]
Sabrina Shaw has moved to Mexico City for three years as her husband, Francisco Cannabrava, has been posted there as a diplomat at the Brazilian Embassy. Their sons, Benjamin (2) and Gabriel (1), are settling into this thriving megalopolis. Sabrina is on leave from the Secretariat of the World Trade Organization and is doing some reporting for the International Institute of Sustainable Developments Earth Negotiations Bulletin. Andre Belelieu is a research associate and the director of project research in the Americas Program's Canada Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. His primary areas of focus are homeland security, the Smart Border process, North American defence relations and North American economic integration. [November 2003]
After working for CTV News for several years, Aphrodite Salas now a Parliament Hill correspondent based in Ottawa, Canada, working for Citytv. She has also gotten engaged recently and is planning a summer 2004 wedding in Toronto. [November 2003]
