Annex: Miyazaki Actions
Miyazaki, Japan, April 23, 2023
[pdf]
We, the G7 Agriculture Ministers, will actively work as members of the international community to achieve more productive, resilient and sustainable agriculture and food systems, bearing in mind the discussion we have had in Miyazaki, which includes, though not exhaustive, the following points:
To address the short-term challenges, such as Russia's illegal war of aggression against Ukraine, natural disasters and infectious diseases, at the same time focus on the longer-term objectives of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to achieve net-zero and to halt and reverse biodiversity loss while feeding the growing global population, with no one left behind.
To diversify supply chains, by exploring the ways to enhance local, regional and global food systems, making sustainable use of existing domestic agricultural resources and facilitating trade.
To commit to fair, open, transparent, predictable, non-discriminatory and rules-based trade, and avoid any unjustified restrictive measures on exports
To improve sustainability of agriculture and food systems, by implementing a wide range of innovations and promoting sustainable farming practices.
to intensify efforts as appropriate to reform or reorient agriculture policies to create positive environmental outcomes and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
To enhance the "One Health" approach and promote measures against AMR, transboundary animal diseases and plant pests
To reduce food loss and waste, promote healthy diets and improve consumers' access to information on agriculture and food products they choose and buy.
To support rural revitalization through income diversification, alongside agriculture for example, sustainable forest management for timber and other products, as well as agricultural tourism, and better public infrastructure
To promote research and development, scale-up and disseminate new and existing technologies and practices, including further digitalisation, that meet local needs and situations
To promote training, extension services, knowledge sharing and education, as well as equal access to financing, in particular for youth, women and underrepresented groups
To further enhance collaboration between the government and the private sector, farmers and all other actors, and develop an enabling environment which facilitate responsible private sector investment in agriculture and food systems
To promote the continued transition to sustainable agricultural supply chains and increase our support for sustainable supply chains that decouple agricultural production from deforestation and forest degradation
